Professor Helen Dewey is Director of Neurosciences at Eastern Health and Monash University.
Helen undertook her undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney, graduating in 1985 and later moved to Melbourne to complete her advanced training in neurology. She is trained in both neurology and rehabilitation medicine and is a member of the Australian Society for Geriatric Medicine.
Helen has been active in stroke care and multidisciplinary stroke research for more than 20 years. She received her PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2000 for research conducted as part of the North East Melbourne Stroke Incidence Study (NEMESIS) (2000). She is Co-Chair of the Steering Committee for A Very Early Rehabilitation Trial (AVERT), a member of the Steering Committee for the Victorian Stroke Telemedicine project and an investigator for many stroke clinical trials. Helen has a keen interest in improving care and outcomes for patients with stroke. She is the current Vice-President of the Stroke Society of Australasia and Honorary Secretary for the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists. In addition, she is the former Clinical Lead of the Victorian Stroke Clinical Network.
